Descartes refutes the postulate of the "evil genius." Descartes first writes about the evil genius postulate in his first meditation. Descartes refutes this because he cannot produce doubt of his own existence or that he is creating mental thoughts. Thus saying, that the "evil genius" no matter how all-powerful he maybe he cannot make Descartes think that he exist when in fact Descartes does not exist. To do that Descartes would have to exist and not exist. Descartes has one of the most well known sayings in all of philosophy "I think therefore I am".
