This paper firstly define these emotions .secondly it will explains the symptoms that are highlighted due to an illness. moreover, this paper also shows writers clinical and community based scenario's,thirdly this paper will give some ideas about how to solve these complicated emotions in more productive and effectivemanner with representation of some models,theories. And finally this paper will conclude possible majors in handling emotions that are the focus of matter.
In Pakistan it has been observed that there are many problem occurring now a days due to confuse emotions like for example 8thJune 2012 zofeen Ibrahim in her Colum in dawn news stated that "Yaqoob shot himself dead with a pistol at his home after his father, Kaleem, scolded him for not taking interest in his studies and due to stress and anger," Dr Asha Bedar, does not believe child or teen suicide is a result of tediousness. "It's usually about either mental illness (e.g., depression) or emotional disturbance caused by circumstances."
The other reason to write this paper is also to promote good community based teaching on emotions to the community because patients are not only those who come to hospital for the treatment but patients can be at home or anywhere around us who don't feel that their anger, anxiety or depression is a psychological problem that need to be treated at home or hospital by a very simple methods.
To identify these emotions and their problem first we have to know that what emotions are. We are used to viewing emotions as "possessions". It's a lot more specific to describe them as progressions. Each emotion has a formula, as it open up in us, many unusual changes occur in our corpse and minds: A change in brain dealings. Hormones being secreted into the blood stream. A change in our bodily process: Change of breathing, change in heart rate. Change of blood circulation. Change of posture and change in face appearance. diverse muscle groups relax or uptight. Change in role of the internal organs and etc.
Among people anger has no definite meaning some says we are cooker and the pressure in it is our anger. Some say anger is fire and we are water. Some says anger is evil. But ( Tramilton, 2007)defines Anger as a healthy and normal sentiment in moderation. It's also a multifaceted feeling that can be used in a lot of fragile ways like to motivate, scare and manipulate, among others. But if this anger become more than it becomes a problem.
There are thousands of physical signs of anger but few of them are sweating, particularly of the palms, dizziness, feeling lightheaded, hotness of the face and neck, trembling and shaking, fast, pounding and increased heart rate, headache and teeth grinding, stomachache. (tramilton, 2007)and it has been observed that these signs are very common now days in hospitals.
It has been observed that Most of the time, the subjects that produce anger in patients or family are resolvable and, certainly they should be resolved as speedily as probable. You should never let this stay behind or 'aggravate" any longer than undeniably necessary. The anger will only get eviler if you don't tackle it quickly. Angry patients usually become disobedient and distrustful eventually. The nurse-patient connection can become irreparably damaged and, in that case, either the patient will need to make a alteration or you will with regard to stirring to another health care professional. Don't try to persevere with a relationship that doesn't exist.so to solve patient anger The first fixation to do if an angry individual opposes you is NOT get angry. Imprison your emotions. Be anxious about the fact that the patient is perceptibly upset. Try to take on a accommodating attitude. Let them recognize that whatever is their apprehension will become your chief concern. Never revisit anger with anger.
Allow the fuming person to aerate. Sometimes it's a good idea to just pay attention to the grumbles for a while. This is soothing in and of itself, particularly if the individual is just trying to relief some pent up frustration. Just try to be as supportive as supportive as possible. You don't have to agree with what the individual is saying but you can constantly say something like, "I'm sorry you feel that way".
Try to figure out why the person is disturb if it is not straight away seeming. Perhaps, the problem could be something that is fluently fixable, after which the anger could be swiftly resolved. Try to lodge sensible requests as much as possible. Be flexible with patients.
Likewise for anxiety some say it's an uneasyfeeling, while other says it's my insight that help me and give me power to solve problem. Well but literature says that Anxiety is a customary individual emotion that everyone experiences at epoch (oxford dictionary). Many people feel anxious, or nervous, when faced with a dilemma at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. For example a patient was anxious about choosing which guy for relationship and her family members were not supporting her. She ended up with anxiety disorder.
The symptoms anxiety which is commonly observed in patients in settings includes dizziness. Drowsiness and fatigue.Pins and needles. Irregular heartbeat (shudders). Muscle niggles and tension. Dry mouth.Excessive sweating.Shortness of breath.Stomach ache.Nausea.Diarrhea.Headache.Excessive thirst.Frequent urinating.Painful or missed periods.Difficulty falling or staying asleep (restlessness).
Depression may be described as a feeling of blue, lonely, unhappy or down. Most of us feel that way several times in our life. According to literature depression is a maladaptive response. It is "a chronic mental disorder characterized by persistent sadness, despair, loneliness, low self-esteem, and self-reproach; accompanying signs include psychomotor retardation, loss of appetite, withdrawal from social contact and insomnia"(Nordqvist, 2012).For example In a practical case scenario, A patient who due to his illness was admitted by his family verbalized on interviewing that his family after his recovery is not bothering to take him back home, I am nothing to them, I am worthless and just a piece of body and a brain which is mad. This case shows the signs of a depressed individual.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health symptoms of depression may include the following. Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions.Fatigue and decreased energy.Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness.Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism.Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping.Irritability, restlessness.Loss of interest in actions or hobbies once pleasing, including sex.Overeating or appetite loss. Constant aches or pains, cramps, headaches or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment. Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings. Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
Now to solve this anxiety and depression problem in patients Problem-solving therapy is used now a days it is a form of psychotherapy that is focused on developing and improving a patient's surviving skills and enhancing his or her ability to handle demanding or upsetting life experiences (Jaine L. Darwin, 2007)
This therapy is basically catogarise in three different types Social problem-solving therapy, Problem-solving for primary care settings,Self-examination problem-solving therapy.
Anxiety ,anger and depression are basically emotional illness. These are related to each other and they are the reason for each others to occur. So it's quite obvious that to control these emotions we have to break their chain in some cases. For example a patient In a general unit is shouting. When a nurse went to him and asked him why you are angry he replied sister I m angry because no one here listens to me.no one here wants to talk to me, no one here is for me, I don't want a surgery, and I m not willing to do it but my family is forcing me to do it.now lets analyses this example after imaging this example there are some obvious things which are very clear that he has anxiety for surgery. No one listening to him makes him depressed. Now that he is depresses he is lowering his depression by shouting out loud. But still no one bother to listen him .this what makes him angry. So see every emotion here is linked with one another. Therefore, by blocking at least one emotion we can overcome all the emotional problems.
Now as we all know that anger, anxiety and depression problems are basically interlinks with each other and can be solved simultaneously. Dr Gill Jenkins in July 2011 in his blog gives some tricks to handle these emotions all in one for individual, nurse and for patient as well. Firstly he says that when people or patient struggling from emotions that are difficult to handle have to do two things manage with the feeling at the occasion it strikes us. Take care of the starting place of that cause. He further writes that there are some common mistakes which we have to avoid are .do not try to fight with emotions or do not try to stop it because once an emotion has arisen, it is there
Having the awareness of how our sentiment works, we can use it to rule them. When an emotion arises, all of its progression builds a criticism loop, mutually supporting each other. We can suspend an emotion by interfering one or more of its ingredients. This leads us to our trick number one. Force your patient to smile. This is aninborn force method, but it's modest and can give your patient a boost if your patient keeps it up for a tiny minutes. If you feel that it's receiving too much, ask your patient to make a smiling frown. It won't be a factual smile at first and even this may feel meaningless at first, but just keep doing it but remember If your patient is smiling in order to maneuver others that would be false and manipulative. If your do it with the genuine intention of refining his/her life though, there's naught wrong with it. Your patient can be clear to hisself and others and if your patient asks the rationale behind this then heres the rational.Focused smile trickeries your brain to start generating some happy chemicals but It will take some instance to observe the change in frame of mind, so make sure to keep it up for a while, this will have a long enduring positive effect on your patient's moods and health. Now if your patient start feeling normal guide your patient to pay attention to all doubts that may arise in his/her brainpower and write them down. Then reassess them one by one."While my foremost response to this state was negative, but me myself helping myself to keep a productive attitude by smiling.Method number two islaugh. If you can get your patient to laugh, this will interpose any negative emotion your patient may be having. We persons can have thoughts about thoughts, and emotions about emotions. If your patient feel that hislife's sucks, ask your patient to laugh about it. hoot at your fear or anger or bleakness. Your patient can generate laughter in by forcing a smile and then replicate the breathing pattern of a real giggle: Aaaaa! - ha - ha - ha - ha - ha - ha!Try this at your patient. After some practice it can literally trick your body into laughing. When you seepatient mood is raising in a positive side, use this boost constructively. Now here comes the last method which is toAssume relaxed posture. When you see you patient is angry or anxious, you see his body tenses up. If you manage to change his/her position, this will have an impact on the way he/she feels.Here, I offer my reader a visualization I came up with that and it lend a hand me and my patient to relax in societal situations. I experienced it at home and even try with my patients. while slowly on foot around. It goes like this: picture that you are walking down a coastline. You listen to the sound of the breeze and the waves, as well as some seagulls in the space. You like those sounds. Try to listen as much as you can and enjoy. As you pay attention to the sounds of the marine, you can also sense its scent. You inhale it in deeply. Take in as a lot as you can.You can get in touch with the sun rays warming your skin. You adore this warm feeling. Open your arms and try to get as much sun balminess as you can. Enjoy. As you slowly walk down the coastline, you can experience your bare feet bowl into the warm sand, as it sandwiched between your toes. Enjoy that mood. You feel the wind blow at your body, cooling and gently entertain your skin - warmed by the sun and breezy by the wind. Enjoy this sensation. Open up and acquire as much as you can. You are enjoying all those impression, let your face smirk. Observe the sensation of your face smiling. Enjoy. You can slowly walk around your room or ward and imagine that you are on that coastline. Allow physically get into it. Open up your body and try to get as much as you can from all those thoughts. Stretch a bit. Then you will see the difference. And this method is even defined as guided imaginary in many books of mental health nursing in psychiatry.
In conclusion, emotional stability is very essential for a healthy life for patients as well as for us. At current, it sees that emotional instability is getting very common among nurses and patient which lead them to severe psychiatric disorders which even some time did not recognize by them. As a nurse, we must be looking at the provokingfactors of these over whelming emotions in our patient, a nurse must be competent enough to provide comfort to the patient and him/herself. Nurse should be sensitive enough to recognize patient problems. Moreover, there are some trick and therapies that should be reached and demonstrated to patient so that they forgets to just live their life but also start enjoying it without any negative anger, anxiety or depression in them. Thus, because nursing is not about just salary it's about to serve humanity.(aziz, 2007)
