The greenhouse effect is the process in which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warms a planets surface. Greenhouse effect is important because it keeps Earth warm, but if it becomes stronger it could make Earth warmer then usual and that could cause problems for humans, plants and animals. The Earths average surface temperature of 15 °C is about 33 °C warmer than it would be without the greenhouse effect. Global warming, a recent warming of the Earths lower atmosphere, is believed to be the result of an enhanced greenhouse effect due to increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are the ones that cause radiated heat to be trapped in the Troposphere, as these gases reflect the heat back towards the earth and prevent its radiation out of the atmosphere, resulting in a rise in the temperature of the Earth surface.

These gases are naturally present in the atmosphere, therefore a natural warming of the Earth takes place. However, the more greenhouse gases there are in the atmosphere, the warmer the temperature will get and that - a situation we have to avoid. The three main greenhouse gases are Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.WHAT ARE GASES WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO GREENHOUSE EFFECT?
