Improve The Facebook Application Interface Computer Science

This document to describe the usability testing results concerning filed testing for the Facebook application on iPad and Android 10.1. Our testing was conducted from 26 to 27 November at Danisco Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Prai, Penang. We had evaluate the application via one to one, task based usability testing session with 5 participants, all of whom were familiar with Facebook via website but not the Facebook Application on the tab. The main goal is to test the usability of the Facebook Application in both of iPad and Android 10.1 tabs. The testing will help gain a better understanding to improve the Facebook Application.

The objectives of usability test are

i. To indentify inconsistencies and design problems areas in usability and user interface.

a) Navigation error - could not determine tasks and excessive of keystrokes to complete a task.

b) Displaying error - properly not act upon the information requested on the screen and input errors due to similar labels

ii. The task list data will be used to assess whether the participant had achieved the desired objective relating to usability and user interface are effective and efficient and well accepted.

iii. The difficulties of specific tasks within the Facebook Application.

iv. Present recommendation and suggestions to improve the Facebook Application interface.

3. Executive Summary

Users completed the given task accessing Facebook via application and input the task content with a lot of difficulty. Our focus, where users experienced difficulty and confusion, when carry out the list task given and they also compare it with accessing the Facebook via website. Users found it confusing or tedious to carry out 4 main task compare with 5 task given. They always depending on their previous experience with Internet Explorer or other web browers. Although most of the functions within the Facebook Application were easily understood by our participants, all users found it overly difficult to perform the action to completed the task due to labeling issue, some of the action been carried out with assumption, trial and error and with facilitator guide.

The participants, been provide with Data Collection Sheet. They had carried out the task in the list such as updating/deleting the status on the post wall, upload photo, searching for people, noted their current location.

All of these tasks will be measured by the time such as:

Time taken to complete the task

Time taken to response

Time taken to key-in data

Number of errors

Number of mistake while input data

Percentage of Battery Used

Successful/unsuccessful

Those all task will be implemented in both of the two tab the iPad and Android 10.1 tab. With that we are able to get information about the Facebook application function performance in both of the tabs .Then users had been given with questionnaire where it will help us to get the user satisfaction of the Facebook application in both of tabs.
